Music!

Nothing entertains me more than music. I don't feel a need to inundate you with links to sites where you can purchase or listen to music, but for my own convenience I'm putting up some links you may find useful as well.

My Favorite Songwriter: Jeff Barry, California.
Great guy, composer of some amazing tunes you know by heart.

A Music Conte$t for You: Name That Tune, my place.
I own two songs on a 45 that has no label. Tell me their names. No one else can. Win a prize.

A Tragic Tale--The Great Meltdown of My 45s: Seán's 45s, Indiana.
I lost more than 100 45s. I found about 30 of them online recently through vinyl vendors.

Musicians I Have Met, wherever.
On the music bio project, I have gotten to meet some legends. Includes other meetings.

Most Laid-Back Music "Museum": Holly Crash Site, Clear Lake, IA.
I have tried to get here for years. I finally figured out how.

Best Music Festival:
Lotus Festival, Bloomington, Indiana.
30 acts from 25+ countries, 15,000 music fans. I was the TV emcee when I lived in town.

Best Music Preservation: UCSB Cylinder Project, Santa Barbara, CA.
More than 6,000 cylinders digitized for free download. A beautiful labor of love.

Best Music Blogs (1): Echoes in the Wind, St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Another labor of love, rescuing obscure vinyl that has never been on CD. Great essays.

Best Music Blogs (2): The Hits Just Keep on Comin', Madison, WI.
A Top 40 expert shares the nuances of this art form. Another set of great essays.

My Favorite Singer-Songwriter: Paul Drinkwine, St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Puts on the best show in town. Paul has an amazing command of the guitar.

Best Community Radio: WFHB-FM, Bloomington, Indiana.
I love the feel of the place, and I miss working there more than I can allow myself to admit.

An Electrifying Artist: Webb Wilder, Nashville, Tennessee.
I love this guy's music, his persona, his films. Check him out.

First Crush on a Singer, 1972: Beverly Bremers, California.
OMG. Once I saw her on Mike Douglas, it was all over for years. No other girl had a chance.

My Favorite 1960s Pop Singer: Ed Rambeau, East Coast.
I had a 45 by him, "Skin Divin'." Smooth, versatile voice. Great guy, too.

My Favorite Music Community: ABBAMAIL, Sydney, Australia.
Very quirky bunch, more knowledge about ABBA than any online group has about any artist.

Best Ticket Source: Coast to Coast Tickets, Austin, Texas.
Excellent service. I wrote some of their music blurbs, too.

Best Rights Organization: BMI, NYC, etc.
If you write music, you need to join.

Best Music Trade Magazine: Billboard, NYC, etc.
Essential to the industry professional, the collector, the fan.
