Remembering Bob Collins For as long as I could remember, Bob Collins was the king of the morning drive in Chicago, on 720 AM, WGN Radio. He didn't need to shock anyone. He was funny. He was wise. He was good-hearted without being maudlin. He was unforgettable. That would explain why WGN archived his website after Bob died in a midair small-plane crash on February 8, 2000. I listened to him almost every morning, but I was playing a CD the day of his last show. The next morning, the afternoon drive host, Spike O'Dell, was on in Bob's place, and when I finally realized why Spike was on instead of Bob, I was stunned. I am providing a link to his website at WGN, from which you can access a multitude of audio clips from his years at WGN. If you knew him, here's how to find him. If you never heard him, do yourself a favor and get to know Bob Collins. |
